Fun fact: the Japanese bowling/arcade franchise, Round 1, has its first location and HQ in Puente Hills Mall in City of Industry, CA, the same mall that was used for the Twin Pines/Lone Pine Mall in the movies. I think either the company was making a reference or they believe that Japanese tourists/immigrants or American Japanophiles would feel right at home when two of their (likely) favorite things are in one spot.

This franchise has been rised again after making solid seasons with interesting sense of humor since Kiramager. Especially Donbrothers became a cult season thanks to having more ordinary characters and sense of humor.

This design reminds me alot of the Sonic fan characters in the late 2000's and early 2010's, or what Bionicle fans did with Vohriki. Template from an existing character with a new colorsheme and some extra decals: bam original character

Some key weird ass moments in Ultraman for me come in with a few parts of my personal favorite season Gaia, there's an ongoing story(kinda) with the giant eye kaiju Gan Q(a recurring villain in later shows) screwing with the main protag when he confronts Gan Q we see he's got this void filled with eyes inside of him, to which he just flys out of Gan Q nuking him from the inside. Later on this evil wizard who was puppeteering Gan Q(?), with him trying to powers to this kid and regenerating his now deteriorating Kaiju. Within the same show there are episodes of: This guy wanting to go back home to his home of Ucubar(this Angel Island looking place) A monster that mind controls people, turning them into zombies through cell phones ringing A portion of the XIG crew (military team for that show) finding this alternate timeline where they die in battle, which results in them turning back the timeline And my favorite, one of the XIG members remembering and being entranced by this flashback of a doll she had as a kid, again turning out to be the MOTW's doing. All of this married with a story about the morality of the human race, an anti hero Ultraman(Agul), and some great action and Gaia embodies what makes Toku(particularly Ultraman) great

I kinda consider Zyuranger as the unofficial start of Sentai's Heisei era. For one alot of core Sentai tropes as primitive as they are pop up here; -First season to have sentient mechs for the Rangers something that would be expanded on later seasons particularly with Abaranger -First season (I think) to be fully fantastical rather than Sci Fi (I think Maskman in particular had fantasy elements not 100% on that) - First Season to have a Ranger show up later and act as an anti hero, something other seasons toyed with but didn't really push as much as what this show did with Burai All of these things and more make Zyuranger (despite being retro) feel closer to the more modern Sentai stuff, especially when you look at what came both before and after it.

4 years later and I came across this video, it turned out to be a good call making Ryusoulger a dinosaur theme, idk about earning and stuff but I can definitely see how they're stepping up the game from Ryusoulger onward, improvement on story, character, humor, action, and quality-wise was noticeable compared to LupinPat, also Kiramager manage to thrive in the middle of 2020 pandemic is really impressive, kudos to Komiya Rio for battling Covid himself mid-season, he's back like a champ. great analysis btw, may I know where you find these information about earnings?

W is basically my gateway on returning ot Tokusatsu. Watching that during hard times in my life also emphasize my sentiment towards it. I'm glad you make this video of one of my fav KR installment! The main thing about Hibiki to me is that the second half isn't even all bad, just the introduction of Kyosuke's really heavy handed at the start and makes it obvious there was a tonal shift and obviously the major letdown of the second to last episode into the final episode. The culmination of Kyosuke's arc and rivalry with Asumu is good when they actually start training together with Hibiki, not to mention the heart-wrenching goodbye to Zanki with Todoroki in the final stretch of the show. That's probably the stuff that came closest to emulating the feel of the first half of the series where it dealt with the master-apprentice relationships and cooperation instead of antagonism between the characters.

Maybe it's the fact they switch storylines and cast every year? Kids get invested in a team and characters, their suit design and bots, etc., but then it's all gone in a few months. Maybe that doesn't matter to young kids, but as a US kid, I liked that we had the same characters in Power Rangers for years, even if they changed Zords, powers, and outfits. I got invested in Tommy, Jason and Rocky, Aisha and Tanya, Kim and Kat, etc., and when one or two swapped out at a time, it was less of a shock than the entire team being different every year. This continued up until Power Rangers in Space. But when they started swapping out every year, I started caring less and less. You knew the cast wasn't going to be around very long, and it made it hard to get invested.

Having looked at Zero One's design next to W, I figured out why I hated the former's design so much when W's looked much simpler: the segmented green on black just makes the whole suit look cheap, especially the head where it looks like he's wearing a mask over a black morph suit rather than a helmet

Too much weird wacky designs, the last good design was Gokaiger over 10 years ago. Since Gobuster the costume is so ugly and now it's just a ad to sell toys with the over the top gadgets and robots and costume variations

I’ve always felt that ToQger was written as something of a reflection of the disaster that struck Japan in 2011. The heroes of the story were just kids, who were displaced from their hometown by a darkness that was consuming Japan, and there were times when they weren’t sure if they’d ever find their way home. I feel that the darkness was symbolic for the destruction from the earthquake and the tsunami, and whenever the heroes rescued each town from the darkness, that was symbolic of efforts to rebuild after the disaster. Near the very end, the Red Ranger is looking at the possibility that his teammates will make it home, but he won’t. I feel that at that part of the story, the Red Ranger represented people from the communities surrounding the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, who couldn’t go home because of the radiation. Maybe I’ve read too much into ToQger, but I don’t think so. ToQger’s story is sad enough by itself, but it’s heartbreaking when you consider that it was probably influenced by the 2011 disaster.

Japanese just like great characters, funny bombastic acting, slapstick humor, colorful styles of clothing and hair, and good music or soundtracks. It hit 10/10 with each.

I also think that there are some themes that should be given another chance or they haven't tried at all.

I doubt that's copying because that's originality right there basically. :/

With the release of avataro Don Brothers I'm working if sentai is in trouble again. Haven't really gotten to sit and watch it so might be good.

They should have ended the Sentai series in Gokaiger. It was the perfect opportunity!
